CE congratulates Macao, China delegation for winning gold, silver and bronze medals at 48th WorldSkills Competition
MACAU, September 28 - The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, sent on Sunday (27 September) a congratulatory letter to the Macao, China delegation participating in the 48th WorldSkills Competition, expressing his pleasure at seeing Macao young people demonstrating exceptional vocational skills and winning honours for Macao.
On behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government, Mr Sam extended his congratulations to three competitors: Wong Weng Kei, Chao Chi Hou, and Carvalho Hoo Cloe, for respectively clinching gold, silver, and bronze medals in the “Visual Merchandising”, “Unmanned Aerial Systems”, and “Retail Sales” skills competitions. He also congratulated the delegation on winning 11 awards in the Medal for Excellence category.
In his letter, Mr Sam said he was delighted to hear the Macao, China delegation has achieved outstanding results. This fully reflected the spirit of craftsmanship among Macao’s young people in their pursuit of excellence and of continuous improvement.
The excellent results achieved by the delegation’s competitors were not only the crystallisation of their long-term personal efforts but also the concrete outcome of the MSAR Government and all sectors of society continuously working together to promote vocational-skills education and deepen the integration of industry and education, said Mr Sam.
Over the years, the MSAR Government has collaborated with tertiary institutions in order continuously to optimise training mechanisms, providing competitors with systematic and internationalised support for their participation and preparation, thereby laying a solid technical foundation.
In his congratulatory letter regarding the 48th WorldSkills Competition, President Xi Jinping pointed out that China had hosted this edition of the competition as an opportunity to encourage and guide more workers, especially young people, to develop their talents through skills development.
Macao will actively respond to President Xi’s encouragement by further improving the skilled-talent cultivation system, expanding diversified development paths for young people, and increasing resource investment.
Mr Sam said Macao would drive vocational and technical education to keep pace with the times, cultivating more high-quality talented people equipped with innovative capabilities and practical skills, thus injecting new momentum into Macao's appropriate economic diversification.
The Chief Executive expressed hope that the vast number of workers in Macao, particularly the younger generation, would continue to maintain a spirited and enterprising attitude, achieve even greater success in future international arenas, and win greater honour for Macao.
